Lab test for hemoconcentration
Quest Diagnostics and many others
The hemoglobin molecule fills up the red blood cells. It carries oxygen and gives the blood cell its red color. The hemoglobin test measures the amount of hemoglobin in blood and is a good measure of the blood’s ability to carry oxygen throughout the body. Hemoconcentration is said to exist whenever there are excessive levels of red blood cells.
[Source]Hemoconcentration is said to exist whenever there are excessive levels of red blood cells, and this condition could come about because the body is overproducing red blood cells (as in polycythemia) or because the capillaries are leaking plasma (as in Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome). However, in the former case albumin levels in the blood are normal and patients do not experience swelling; in the latter, patients have an abnormally low level of albumin and they usually experience swelling in arms and legs.
