Causes

While the cause of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is unknown, it is believed to be caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors.

Disorder Symptoms

There are several symptoms that affect people with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Joint pain or swelling Joint pain or swelling
Muscle pain Muscle pain
Red rashes Red rashes that often occur on the face. These are also called the "butterfly rashes". These rashes are often painless and do not itch.
Fever Fever with no known cause
Anemia Anemia may develop in as many as half of patients.

Diagnosis

Doctors look for a combination of symptoms.
While each person will have different symptoms (hence the name “the disease of a 1000 faces”), there are some that have a higher frequency rate.
